Information about the Fall 2026 Peer Tutoring Program
Before you submit your request, please read the information below.
***When to Submit***
The Academic Success Center (ASC) will accept Peer Tutor Request Forms from Tuesday, September 8 at 12:00 p.m. CST through Friday, November 20 at 12:00 p.m. CST.
After this deadline, the Fall 2026 Peer Tutoring Program will be closed to new participants.
***After You Submit Your Request***
Due to high demand, it may take up to one week for the ASC to contact you.
You must be signed in to your Valpo Gmail account to complete the request form.
***Before Requesting a Peer Tutor***
The Peer Tutoring Program provides weekly academic support from a trained peer tutor in a specific undergraduate course.
Students are expected to use these academic support options before requesting individual peer tutoring.
1) Talk with your professor about the course and your academic needs.
2) Attend your professor’s office hours.
3) Use available department help sessions.
4) Attend drop-in study sessions for your course, if offered.
5) Use drop-in tutoring at the Writing Center or Hesse Learning Resource Center, when appropriate.
***How Tutor Matching Works***
Tutor matching is based on tutor availability and student demand, so submitting a request does not guarantee that you will be matched with a tutor.
When completing the form, list as many days and times as you are available. Providing more availability increases the chances of finding a tutor who matches your schedule.
If you are matched with a tutor:
You will receive a Tutoring Assignment Notification by email from the ASC with your tutor’s name.
Your tutor will contact you to schedule a Meet & Greet.
During the Meet & Greet, you and your tutor will review program expectations and choose a weekly meeting time.
If we are unable to find a tutor match, the ASC will email you with next steps.
***What Is Expected of Peer Tutoring Students***
If you are accepted into the program, you are expected to:
1) Attend one 1-hour tutoring session each week throughout the semester.
2) Attend your assigned tutoring appointment each week and arrive prepared to ask questions about the course and engage in learning with the tutor.
3) Be prepared to work with other students. Most tutoring sessions are small groups of 2–3 students.
4) Continue attending at least one weekly drop-in study session for the course, if one is offered.
**If you do not attend drop-in study sessions for two weeks, your individual tutoring appointments will be placed on hold.**
